SEARCHING FOR GOD and FINDING THE TREASURE

ABOUT THE BOOK

Life is a journey – uphill and downhill, across mountains and plains, through paths of revelation and discovery, meaningfulness and adventure. Searching for God and finding the treasure recounts the journey of one woman’s search for God as a Catholic Sister working for the Church. She wants to remind readers that the Catholic Church is not the ‘perfect society’ as the pre-Vatican council documents once described the church. The church, as the Vatican Council documents states, is the ‘People of God.’ She reveals to the reader that God is a God of surprise. God may be found in unexpected places and people. Where you expect to find God you may be surprised, and where you don’t expect to find God, you may also be surprised. She reveals to the reader her experiences of ‘being surprised.’ But this author’s primary message is that God is not a hidden God, and it is Jesus who tells us that where there is love there is God. God is here – in our loving, in our caring, in our generosity and more. God is always with us – even when we are conscious of our failure, our sin and when everything seems to be going wrong, God does not give up on us.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sister Sandra Makowski was born Sandra Ann Makowski and grew up in Binghamton, New York. Six minutes after her birth her twin sister, Carole Jean was born. They shared the same bedroom, clothes, thoughts and ultimately the same vocation. They graduated from high school and entered the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur. They knew the Sisters from grade school, and witnessed the love and kindness that the Sisters had for one another – and they wanted that for themselves. Her sister, Carole, who took the name Sister Jean, was killed in a car accident in 1981 while on her way to serve in the missions.

This tragedy changed Sandra’s life and she learned the courage of survival and the kindness of friends. Sister Sandra’s first book was published in 2014 and it is titled “The Side of Kindness.” Sister Sandra received a Bachelor’s degree in education and went on to receive a Masters degree in religious studies and licentiate in canon law, Along with the knowledge gained from her studies, she writes from her first hand experience as a woman working in the Catholic Church for 42 years as a teacher, canonist, judge, and presently Chancellor for the Diocese of Charleston, S.C. She authored her second book “The Invisible Women.” In “Searching for God and Finding the treasure” she recounts a woman’s journey in her search for God and discovering, in this journey, that God is with us in all of our moments of life.
